Dealing with the Shadow Side

Last year I wrote a book about facing the darker side of ourselves. It had to be done. I called it Shadow Dancing because by the end of the year when I saw my shadow on the pavements as I walked by, I felt OK about it.

But the journey to try and accept that the darker side was as important as the lighter side was difficult.

A lot of this is that all the negative emotions we feel, jealousy, anger, guilt – these are emotions we are asked to suppress. They’re better left ‘hidden’ somewhere. Better not to express them. No one wants to hear them.

The latter is also true. No one wants to go out for an evening with someone who is spewing green bile all night. But I found something out. Without the ability to express these feelings, without others being able to ‘see’ you and…
