Last year I wrote a book about facing the darker side of ourselves. It had to be done. I called it Shadow Dancing because by the end of the year when I saw my shadow on the pavements as I walked by, I felt OK about it.
But the journey to try and accept that the darker side was as important as the lighter side was difficult.
A lot of this is that all the negative emotions we feel, jealousy, anger, guilt – these are emotions we are asked to suppress. They’re better left ‘hidden’ somewhere. Better not to express them. No one wants to hear them.
